– Eberspaecher opens new production plant for exhaust technology in Ramos Arizpe close to Saltillo, Mexico

– 500 people produce exhaust systems for passenger cars and commercial vehicles

Esslingen (Germany) / Saltillo (Mexico), March 5 2021Automotive supplier Eberspaecher headquartering in Esslingen, Germany, opens a new plant for exhaust technology in Ramos Arizpe close to Saltillo, Mexico. The company is thus expanding its existing presence in the North American market. The plant is designed for sustained growth in the coming years.

By now Eberspaecher produces complete emission control systems as well as components like particulate filters and catalytic converters for passenger cars and commercial vehicles at its new plant close to Saltillo, Mexico. This is a decisive step for Dr. Thomas Waldhier, COO of the Exhaust Technology Division: “Demand for Eberspaecher’s emission control systems is strong worldwide. The new Mexican plant strengthens our North American production network. It enables us to supply customers directly and quickly on site.” The production facility is located in the immediate vicinity of important international car manufacturers. Saltillo borders on the Pan-American Highway and thus offers excellent traffic and transport connections.

A strong team for North American customers
With an area of almost 21,000 square meters, the plant is about the size of three soccer fields. Actually there is a soccer pitch equipped with artificial turf and besides of the company’s own canteen a barbecue corner on the site for attractive breaks for employees. A good 90 percent of the total area of the plant is devoted to production and logistics. Around 300 employees are already working at the plant and staff will increase to about 500 by mid-2021. Under the Eberspaecher premise „Safety first, quality always“ construction of the new plant as well as the ramp-up of series production took place in the last months. The construction time of the production plant was ambitious at only nine months, but not uncharted territory for Eberspaecher. The corona pandemic only led to a one-month delay, because the local experts reacted quickly and competently to the new conditions. Together with the responsible local authorities, appropriate measures were taken to protect the employees and at the same time meet the schedules.

Official opening in a festive setting
Dr. Thomas Waldhier, COO of Eberspaecher’s Division Exhaust Technology opened the newest production plant together with the local management team in a festive ceremony on March 5. They were especially happy about the presence of the Miguel Riquelme Governor of Coahuila, Jaime Guerra, Secretary of Economy Coahuila and Jose María Morales, Mayor of Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila. Tereso Medina, General Secretary of the Federation of Coahuila CMT underlined the importance for the region of locating a sustainable and growth-oriented company as Eberspaecher.

By opening the new plant in Saltillo Eberspaecher Exhaust Technology is now represented at six sites in North America. These include the US production plants in Brighton and Wixom (Michigan), Spartanburg (South Carolina) and Northport (Alabama) as well as a development center in Novi (Michigan).
